Obituary for Nita M. Elkin Nita Myers Elkin passed away July 6 2018 at age 86 in Fort Myers, FL. Nita was born August 2, 1931 in Lexington to Kentucky to Dorothy Myers Moore and Earnest Johnson Myers. She was preceded in death by her two brothers, Kenneth L. Myers and William A. Myers.

She leaves behind Benjamin James Elkin, her high school sweetheart and husband of 67 years and three children, Kathleen Turner (Jerry), Zach Elkin (Mary), and Julie Young (Bruce). A native of Lexington KY, and die-hard University of Kentucky fan and UK Fellow, she graduated from St. Catharine’s Academy and was a charter member of Christ the King Catholic Parish. She was an active member of the Alter Society and the St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary.

Nita was also a member of St. John’s Catholic Church in Naples, FL, where she was an usher and a greeter. She lived in Bonita Springs, FL for 20 years, subsequently moving to Ft. Myers, FL to be closer to her family and grandchildren.

She is now a member of Blessed Pope John XXIII Catholic Church Parish. Nita devoted her life to being an amazing wife and mother, filling her home with the smell of home-baked bread, love and laughter. She was blessed with six wonderful grandchildren, and was “Mema” to Kevin Garrett Greenwell (Robyn), Nita Greenwell Stewart (Noah), both from Ft.

Myers, FL. Benjamin James Elkin II, Costa Mesa, CA and Christopher Garrett Elkin (Jessica), Long Beach, CA. Brett Alexander Young (Teeci), and Taylor Brandt Young (Pinky), both from Orlando, FL.

She enjoyed six great-grandchildren, Addyson Greenwell, Emersyn Greenwell, Turner Lou Stewart, Fisher Stewart, Pax Stewart, and Carter Grayson Young, who will forever remember her sweet smile and sassy sense of humor. A mass and celebration of Nita’s life will be held on Friday July 13 at St. John XXIII Catholic Church as 13060 Palomino Ln, Fort Myers, FL 33912. She will be buried at St. John’s XXIII Memorial Garden.

The family requests memorial donations for Nita be made to Hope Hospice at www. hopehcs.org/donate/ or by mail at Development Office, Hope Hospice, 9470 HealthPark Circle, Fort Myers, FL 33908. Arrangements are being handled by Shikany’s Bonita Funeral Home.
