Obituary for Norma G. Clark Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Sister, and Friend Norma Madeleine Greene Clark, 98, a resident of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at NHC Healthcare in Johnson City on Tuesday, November 20, 2018. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Tetrick Funeral Home, 3001 People’s Street, Johnson City, TN 37604; Norma’s family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. until 4:00 P.M. and her Funeral Service will follow from 4:00 P.M. until 5:00 P.M. The Graveside Service will be begin at 2:00 P.M. the following day, Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Roselawn Memory Gardens, 3033 South Roan Street, Johnson City, TN 37601. Norma was born May 28, 1920, the daughter of Roscoe C. Greene and Venie Buchanan Greene, in Unicoi County, Tennessee where she was raised, educated, and was an active member of Limestone Cove Union Memorial Church.

Teaching Sunday School from an early age began Norma’s lifelong devotion to her Christian faith. On August 19, 1939, Norma and Albert Britton Clark were united in marriage. Albert and Norma owned a beautiful farm in Limestone Cove, Tennessee while Albert was employed at N.A.R.C.

and Norma began her twenty-year career at Dosser’s Department Store which was originally established in 1909. Norma managed Dosser’s shoe department and, as its buyer, regularly flew to Atlanta, Georgia to attend the fashion markets and select merchandise to be sold. In 1973, Albert and Norma left farm life behind and purchased a new home in Martindale Estates in Johnson City.

It was in this home that lifetimes of memories were born as Albert and Norma regularly celebrated holidays with their four children’s families including Albert and Norma’s seven Grandsons. Most memorable were the Thanksgiving Dinners and Christmas Eve Celebrations. When Dosser’s eventually closed its doors, Norma was recruited by Miller’s Department Store of Johnson City.

Over the years, Miller’s became Hess’s and then Proffit’s, and Norma was happily steadfast. Albert and Norma celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1989 surrounded by family and friends. After being recognized for her long devotion to the trade, Norma retired in 1992.

Albert and Norma joined Martindale Baptist Church in the late Seventies and, after Albert’s passing in 1997, their devotion to their church has survived through Norma. The family wishes to thank Norma’s pastor, Paster Delbert E. Storie, and his wife and Norma’s dear friend Cue Storie for their true friendship and the weekly devotionals that were shared with Norma during her time at NHC until her passing. Pastor Storie will be officiating all Funeral Services for Norma.

Norma is survived by her children and their spouses as noted: her daughter Brenda Sharon Clark Brinkley, wife of James Walter Brinkley III, deceased. ; her son A. Gene Clark, deceased, and his wife, Jane I. Clark; her son V. Ray Clark and his wife Kelly W. Clark; and her son J. Keith Clark. Norma is survived by her seven grandsons and their spouses as noted: Gene Scott Clark; James Walter Brinkley IV; Timothy Clark Brinkley and his wife Dori M. Brinkley; Colby Keston Clark and his wife Caitlin K. Clark, Jeffrey Keith Clark II and his wife Lindsey M. Clark, John Westley Clark and his wife Emily B. Clark; and Christopher Jarrod Clark.

Norma is also survived by four great grandchildren: Tanner Scott Clark, Taryn Faith Clark, Victoria Moses Brinkley, and Cannon Britton Clark. Norma is further survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, her church family, and many friends. Norma is preceded in death by her father and mother, her husband Albert, her son Gene, her son-in-law Jim, her brother Ray Buchanan Greene, her sister Mary Nell Greene Cole, her sister Mardell Greene Davis, her special sister-in-law Marie G. Greene, and her close friend Virgie J. Brinkley.

The family sincerely thanks the devoted staff of NHC Healthcare, Johnson City for the exceptional care provided to Norma.
