Norma J Saathoff , January 28, 1956 — June 14, 2018

Norma J. Saathoff, 79, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Beatrice Good Samaritan. She was born April 18, 1939 in Grand Island to Richard and Evelyn Nelson. She lived in Grand Island and attended school until the 9th grade.

She met Elmer Saathoff and they were married January 28, 1956, when she was 16 years old. They moved to Lincoln where Norma worked at Miller and Paine and Elmer worked as a fender and body man. In 1959, they moved from Lincoln to 201 N Bluff Street in Beatrice.

… Read More » Norma worked at Formfit and Elmer worked at Lentz Motors in Beatrice. In 1964, they purchased ten acres of land north of Beatrice and started a salvage yard. There Elmer and Norma worked side by side.

In her younger days, she enjoyed cooking breakfast for all of the salvage yard employees, running errands for Elmer, and doing bookwork. In the later years, she enjoyed delivering parts to the racers. In 2003, she and Elmer got a divorce.

She stayed by his side and helped out at the yard until his death. Norma loved going back to Grand Island to see the cranes migrate and watch the prairie dogs. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church of Beatrice and loved the 6:00 P.M. Saturday evening service.

She is survived by daughter, Julia Ann (Tracy) Stake of Waverly; son, Johnny “The Jet” Saathoff and significant other Traci Russell of Beatrice; grandchildren, Olivia Ann (Tommy) Kite of Hutchinson, KS, Rachael Lynn Stake of Waverly, Sierra Paige Saathoff and Jaxon Jett Saathoff both of Beatrice; brother, Donald Nelson of Beatrice; many nieces, nephews, aunts, and cousins. She was proceeded in her death by her former husband, Elmer Saathoff (7/24/2013); her dad, Richard Ramos Nelson (1/7/78); her mom, Evelyn Marie Anderson Nelson Jiskra (12/28/1994); sister, Sharon Nelson (8/3/1957). At Norma’s request there will be no service and cremation has taken place.

There will be no viewing. A register book will be available at Fox Funeral Home of Beatrice on Tuesday from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M. with the family meeting and greeting friends and relatives from 6:00 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. that evening. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to the Beatrice Humane Society.
