Odessia Allen Henderson August 25, 1929 – November 24, 2018 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Odessia Allen Henderson was born into this world on August 25, 1929 to the late Arnett and Kathleen Bentley in Iva, South Carolina. After 89 years of living and serving God on this Earth, Odessia made heaven her home on November 24, 2018. The matriarch of our family leaves to cherish her memory one son, Stanley Odell Allen of Greenville, SC; two daughters Sharon Ann Johnson of Anderson, SC and Louise Jackson of Greenville, SC.

She was the oldest sibling of three sisters: Dessie L. Tucker of Anderson, SC; Nancy (George) Rice of Asheville, NC, and Jeneretha (Joseph) Dean of Anderson, SC. She was known as Grandma to 18 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, one grandson reared in the home, Travis L. Allen, Sr. of Greenville, SC. and 7 great-great grandchildren.

one daughter-in-law, Gloria Allen of Charlotte, NC and a host of family and friends that will honor and carry out her legacy. She graduated from Reed Street High School. After finishing school she obtained her certification and worked for 40 years as a certified nurse’s aide at Brewer Hospital and Self Memorial Hospital.

Even after retirement, she continued to be a private caregiver to patients. Odessia loved people and loved helping people. She dedicated her life to God at an early age.

She was one of the first members of Bethlehem Church of God Holiness. She was an active and dedicated member until her health began to decline. She was proud of her church and loved her church family.

Odessia was preceded in death by her parents, Arnett and Kathleen Bentley, husband Leo Allen, Sr., son Leo Allen, Jr., daughter Senorita Robinson, and granddaughter of the home Cheryl Annette Allen. Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, December 1, 2018 at Bethlehem Church of God Holiness with Elder Joe Warren officiating. Burial will be in the Evening Star Cemetery.

The body will be placed in the church at 12 noon. Pallbearers will be Travis Allen, Edward Watson, Larry Watson, Stanley Watson, Franklin Jackson and Castullo Allen. Flower Bearers will be Gloria Allen, Tiffany Allen, Zandra Campbell, Verva Carter, Lila Dansby, Melissa Rice, Vanessa Watson, Jeneen Webb and Libby Watson.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Nephews and Honorary Flower Bearers will be nieces. The family will received friends on Friday, November 30, 2018 at the Chapel of Parks Funeral Home from 5 to 6:30 pm. The family is at the home of her son, 125 Henderson Ave.
