Ollie Elizabeth ”Liz” Neumeyer,75,of Hurricane, passed away peacefully at her home on February 26, after a series of illnesses. Born in Clendenin on September 8, 1943, to the late Clarence B. and Verna E. Bird, she was the youngest of six children, graduating from Clendenin High School in 1961. Liz married her soulmate, Densil C. Neumeyer in April 1969 and they made their home in Hurricane.
Always a people person, she spent many years working, first at the Quarrier Stop, and then the Peanut Shoppe, in Charleston. Liz loved reading, painting, cheering on the Mountaineers, and her church, Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist, which she had attended since 1997. She was a joyful voice in the choir, a willing heart and hands at any event or activity, and a tireless and grateful worker for her Lord and anyone in need.
Liz lived a life of cheerful service and has left countless lives the better simply for her presence. Preceding her in death were her parents, Clarence and Lizzie, and her husband of 48 years, Densil, as well as their infant son, Bryan Scott, three brothers, William “Bill”, Bobby, and Charles, one sister, Betty, and her special brother-in-law, Jim Young. She is survived by her sister, Edna Young, of Culloden, with whom she shared a bond that even death cannot break; her dear friend and companion, Donald Gatewood, of Hurricane, who put such a smile on her face every day; her best friend of many years, Nita DeBord, of Culloden, with whom she was nearly inseparable; her sweet neighbor, friend, and adopted daughter, Joyce Cox and her family, who were always there for her throughout the years; a very special and beloved sister-in-law, Joann Sovine, of Hurricane; her neighbor and friend, Doris Roberts, who was a of help and comfort for many years along with a host of other friends and neighbors, and numerous adoring nieces and nephews.
Liz was one of those special people who could light up a room, make you feel loved, and brighten the darkest of days. Her light will continue to shine in the eyes and hearts of all who knew and loved her. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Friday March 1, 2019, at Forrest Burdette Memorial United Methodist Church, 2848 Putnam Ave.
, Hurricane, with Rev. Dr. Ellis Conley. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow in Valley View Memorial Park, Hurricane, with a gathering to celebrate Liz’s life at the church immediately thereafter. You may leave condolences with the family at www.
