Paul W. Swanson, 82, of Orion, died Saturday, July 14, 2018, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 19, 2018, at the Orion United Methodist Church, 407-12th Ave. , Orion.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Western Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Orion United Methodist Church.

Paul was born on November 17, 1935, in Moline, the son of Sherman William and Eleanor Julie (Youngberg) Swanson. He married Iris King in 1957 in Prophetstown. Paul later married Patricia Conces on January 18, 1992, in Pasadena, Texas.

Patricia preceded him in death in 2016. Paul previously worked at the former Sherrard Power as a high voltage lineman for over 20 years. He also worked at Shell Refinery in Houston, TX for some time.

Paul was a member of the Orion United Methodist Church, he enjoyed farming and was the former President of the Andover Chapter of the FFA. He was a founder and former president of the Orion Junior Football League. Paul was a fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Bears, an avid golfer, and played softball with the “Andover Terrible Swedes”.

As a youth, he was the Orion High School quarterback as well as on the basketball and wrestling teams. He previously coached his children in sports and loved to watch his grandkids compete. Survivors include his children, Randy W. (Laura) Swanson, Osco, Gregg Swanson, Colorado Springs, CO, Tim (Carolyne) Swanson, Lynn Center, and Clay (Michelle) Swanson, Biloxi, MS; 13 grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; brother, Wayne (Kathy) Swanson, Lynn Center; sisters, Eunice Anderson, Minneapolis, Marilyn Johnson, Littleton, CO, Jane (Don) Hollins, Smyrna, TN; sister-in-law, Dorothy Irene Swanson, Moline.

He is also survived by his late wife Pat’s family in Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Barry; brother, Everett Swanson; brother-in-law, George Anderson. Memories may be shared on the tribute wall.
