Pauline Frances Grover Preisel (nee, Huntley), 91, of Attica and Lapeer, passed away Sunday, March 17, 2019. She was diagnosed with a blood disorder this winter and died at home surrounded by all of her family. Pauline was born April 24, 1927 in Imlay City to Floyd and Hilda (Varblow) Huntley.

She lived her entire life in Lapeer County. She graduated from Imlay High School, class of 1945 and married Robert “Bob” E. Grover on November 29, 1947. After his death, she married Clayton E. Preisel on April 24, 2003.

Pauline had a wonderful soprano voice and a talent for instruments. She played trumpet in junior and senior high school. She joined the Presbyterian Church choir at age 12 and continued to sing in the choir for the next 60 years.

Pauline was a member of the Lapeer County Community Choir for many years. She also sang with the Flint Festival Chorus for several years and was proud to have performed at the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. Pauline worked in several local doctors’ offices and for the Red Cross office here in Lapeer.

She and Bob were charter members of the Lapeer Area Ambulance Service established in 1969. She was an active volunteer with the Ambulance Service for over 30 years and was very proud to be the first woman to drive the ambulance on a call shortly after the service got up and running. Pauline was also very active in the committee to get the new jail built in Lapeer County which was completed in 1998.

As a result of her involvement in the jail project, she was appointed to the Thumb Area Community Corrections Advisory Board – remaining an active member until recently. Pauline is survived by her husband of 15 years, Clayton E. Preisel; children: Fran (Larry) McInally of Columbiaville, Nancy (Frankie Wielenga) Stimson of Mayville, Rob Grover of North Branch, Jan (Johnny) Wynn of Grand Blanc and Doug (Angela) Grover of Mayville; eight grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Pauline is also survived by step-children: Kathy (Bob) Scimeme of Fort Myers, FL, Janet (Tom) Hess of Northville, Karen (Larry) Drake of Clarkston and Jim (Kim) Preisel of Attica; five step grandchildren and five step great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers: Harold (Veronica) Huntley and William (Jan) Huntley and three grandchildren In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the McLaren Hospice, 1515 Cal Drive, Davison, Michigan 48423 or the Child Advocacy Center of Lapeer,15 East Genesee Street, Lapeer, Michigan 48446. Visitation will be from 2-8PM Thursday, March 21, 2019 at Muir Brothers Funeral Home, Lapeer. Pauline’s funeral service will be 11:00AM Friday, March 22, 2019 at the First Presbyterian Church, 433 N. Calhoun Street, Lapeer, Michigan 48446.

The family will receive friends from 10-11AM at the church the morning of the service. Pastor Alex Peterson will officiate. Burial will be in the Hunters Creek Cemetery, Lapeer.
