Perry “Papa Smurf” “Shawee” Stelly December 12, 1958 – February 08, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Sympathy Card CANKTON ~ Mr. Perry Stelly, age 60, passed away Friday, February 8, 2019 at Lafayette General Medical Center in Lafayette. Mr. Stelly was a native of Arnaudville and a resident of Cankton since 1978. He was employed with many local companies, such as Acme, JT Wein, Lafayette Steel Erectors and Shell, as a long haul truck driver.

As a veteran of the Louisiana National Guard for 6 years, Mr. Stelly received a commendation for his support in the New Orleans Police Strike of 1983. An aspiring singer/songwriter, he loved to play acoustic guitar and sing music. Mr. Stelly never stopped moving.

He loved hunting and was also a member of the LA Jeepers. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Venable Stelly of Cankton; one daughter, Angie Bryant and her husband, Kevin, of Cankton; five grandchildren, Hailey Jade Patin, Ashlyn Grace Patin, Austin Bryant, Elizabeth Bryant and Jack Bryant, and his mother-in-law, Lee Audrey Venable. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank Stelly and the former Jeanette Rougeau; and his father-in-law, Rodney Venable.
