Peter Jeffrey Orth, 64, of Burlington, died at 2:41 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington. Born April 22, 1954, in Burlington, he was the son of Albert Joseph and Marion Louise Hamilton Orth. On March 6, 1976, he married Kathy Moeller in West Point, IA.

Pete owned and operated Strauss Brothers in Burlington and later worked as a Supervisor at United States Gypsum Co. in Mediapolis. He was a 1973 graduate from Burlington High School. Pete was a member of the Cascade Boating Association and Knights of Columbus.

He was a hard worker, who could fix anything. He was very personable and always had a story or a joke for every situation. Pete was a great husband, father and friend who was never more than a phone call away.

He enjoyed the river, fishing and morning coffee with the boys. He was a St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan. Survivors include wife, Kathy Orth of Burlington, one son, Zach (Amy) Orth of Burlington; one daughter, Cayla (Matt) Orth of Gladstone, IL; two grandsons, Prior and Dexter Bowen; two sisters, Sharon (Jack) Carspecken of Burlington and Beth (Landy) Hinesley of Las Cruces, NM; seven brothers, Henry (Sherry) Orth of Chandler, AZ, Thomas (Judy) Orth, Dan (Sue) Orth, Tim (Bambi) Orth, Bart (Ellen) Orth, Ricky (Carrie) Orth and Tony (Carol) Orth all of Burlington; mother-in-law Helen Moeller of West Point, IA; three brothers-in-law Mike (Linda) Moeller of Salem, IA, Dan Moeller of Phoenix, AZ, and Doug Moeller of Tucson, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his infant brother, Albert Orth Jr and his father-in-law. Visitation will be from noon until 7:00 PM Friday, February 1, 2019 with the family to receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home in Burlington. The Funeral Mass of the Resurrection for Mr. Orth will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Burlington with Very Rev.

Father Marty Goetz as the Celebrant. Music will be provided by the Des Moines County Resurrection Choir. A luncheon will be held at the Cafeteria Hall at Divine Mercy Parish-St. John the Baptist Catholic Church following the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for the Notre Dame School and University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
