Richard Joe Shipley 63, of Burlington, formerly of Gibson, died Friday, January 18, 2019, at the Great River Hospice House. Born September 27, 1955, in Sigourney, he was the son of Joe and Wilma (Leathers) Shipley. He married Debora Thatcher and the couple had three daughters and later divorced.

Richard drove a semi all over the United States for several years and worked for Shipley Construction. He enjoyed watching western movies, Clint Eastwood and Charles Bronson. Richard also liked to fish and socialize.

Survivors include three daughters, Stephanie (Eric) Shilling of Rayville, MO, Stacie (Cory) Havill of Norway, IA, and Susanne (Sam) Crews of Des Moines, IA. Six grandchildren, Elijah and Mikiah Shilling, Braeton, Mason and Landon Havill, and Camden Crews. Two brothers, Leonard (Barb) Shipley of Burlington, Jerry Shipley of Sigourney.

One sister, Loretta Mewes of Burlington and several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Wilma Shipley, sister, Shirley Shipley, brother, Kenneth Shipley and brother in law, Donald Mewes. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Family will receive friends 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home. The memorial service for Richard will be 3:00 PM Sunday, January 20, 2019 at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Randy Gearhart officiating. Burial will be held at a later date at Garrett Cemetery, Delta, IA.

Richard’s family would like to thank the Great River Medical Center staff and Great River Hospice House. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
