Katherine Elizabeth Maupin, 92, of Burlington, died at 7:00 PM Sunday, January 6, 2019, at the Great River Klein Center in West Burlington. Born July 2, 1926, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Deane Leroy and Helen Margaret Hartman Geren. On September 3, 1960, she married Leonard Lindsey Maupin in Biggsville, IL.

He died March 31, 2002. Kay and her husband owned and operated Len’s Main Street Shell where she was the bookkeeper and was a homemaker. She was a 1944 graduate of Burlington High School.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, and belonged to the Hope Circle. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan living long enough to see her dream come true, the Cubs winning the World Series. She enjoyed fishing at Bruce’s cabin, feeding birds, watching trains go by, playing scrabble, and loved to cook, especially baking pies.

Survivors include one daughter, Sue (Tom) Birkenstock of Burlington; two sons, Bruce (Joyce) Maupin and Bill (Shawnna) Maupin both of Burlington; six grandchildren, Anne (Brian) Abel, Joe (Shawn) Birkenstock, Brian (Veronica) Birkenstock, Gina (David) Sams, David (Gina) Maupin, and Kaytlyn Roberts; twelve great-grandchildren, Lindsey (Matt) Rascon, Josh, Kasey, Blake, Brianna, Addison, Kynzy, Cole, Quinton, Gavin, Andrew, and Lauren; five great-great-grandchildren, Jake, Kenna, Mateo, Tomas and Sela; two sisters, Doris Roth of Davenport, and Jean Biorn of Minocqua, WI; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM Friday, January 11, 2019, at Prugh-Thielen Funeral Home.

The funeral for Mrs. Maupin will be 2:00 PM Friday, January 11, 2019, at Prugh~Thielen Funeral Home with Very Rev. Father Marty Goetz officiating. Burial will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
