Kirk William Erickson, 72, of Burlington, died at 12:20 am Sunday, January 6, 2019, at the Prairie Ridge Care & Rehabilitation in Mediapolis. Born July 15, 1946, in Burlington, he was the son of William E. and Minnie Mae Swanson-Peterson Erickson. On September 1, 1984, he married Judy A. Moore in Burlington.

Kirk worked as the Director of Department of Human Services for Des Moines, Henry and Louisa Counties, Social Worker at Washington Heights, Park View and Prairie Ridge Care Centers and as a Manager of Rose Bush Assisted Living Center. Kirk was a Danville High School 1964 graduate and a 1970 graduate of Kirksville College. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran from 1965 to 1967 aboard USS Independence and served in the United States Naval Reserves from 1967 to 1971.

Kirk was a really hard worker even after his heath problems. He built dollhouses for his grandkids and he and Judy built their own shed, screened porch and garage. Kirk loved traveling, going to Branson, dancing with Judy, boating on the river, country and gospel music and Gaither Gospel Hour.

One of his favorite past times was watching the 34 Races. He loved Lionel model trains and he built a whole model in his basement. Kirk enjoyed going on outings every day with Judy.

Survivors include wife, Judy A. Erickson of Burlington, two daughters, Nicki (Randy) Stogdill of Burlington and Kathy Moore of New London; two sons, Mike Moore and Jeff Moore both of Escondido, CA; five grandchildren, Logan (Emily) Stogdill of Kingsland, GA, Layne Stogdill of Gladstone, IL, Kenzie Higdon of New London, Brendan Higdon of Burlington, and Kelsi Stogdill of Burlington; one aunt, one uncle, nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, Kirk was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Bonnie Kinsey. Cremation has been entrusted to the care of Prugh~Thielen Crematory.

Visitation will be Saturday January 12th, from 2:00PM until 4:00PM at Messiah Lutheran Church. Full military honors will be rendered by the Burlington Area Veterans Honor Guard after his visitation at 4:00PM. A memorial has been established for the Des Moines County Special Needs Foundation.
