Born November 20, 1917, on the family farm near Oakville, IA, the youngest of 12 children to Dan and Phila Charbonneau. Alsace’s parents named her a year after her birth in tribute to France’s reclamation of the region Alsace Lorraine from the German Empire at the end of WWI.

They had three children: Thomas (Janet Obermann), Phyllis (Denny Cross), Dianne (Chuck) Hurman. They made a life together farming near Danville. In their later years, they were very active, enjoying many outdoor activities together: fishing, skiing, snow-mobiling, traveling, camping and too many others to list.
