Obituary for Philip Andrew Murphy Philip Andrew Murphy, 70, of Buckhannon, WV, born December 9, 1947, passed away peacefully on May 27, 2018, in Hurricane, WV, in the presence of his loving family. Phil was preceded in death by his parents, Anna Claire Joyce and Michael Andrew Murphy; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Kelley. Phil is survived by his loving children; Anna Murphy and Tony Wright, Charles and Sandra Murphy; Mary and Todd Young; Bridget Murphy; Michael and Samantha Murphy; and Theresa and Todd Meadows.

Phil is also survived by his siblings John Michael Murphy, Patrick Murphy, and Joyce Kelley, and his grandchildren: Madison, Faith, Michaela, Ethan, Molly and Cooper. He is also survived by his niece and nephew, Jim Murphy and Sarah Cooper; and his girlfriend Nancy Smarr. Phil was a proud graduate of Charleston Catholic High School and West Virginia State University.

He was an authentic Catholic who displayed his Christian faith by attending weekly mass, most recently at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Buckhannon, and helping countless people throughout his life. He worked as an electrician at Monsanto for 30 years and was an active member of the Moose Lodge. Phil was also an avid outdoorsman.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bancroft, West Virginia on Wednesday May 30, 2018. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make donations to the caring nurses and staff at Teays Valley Assisted Living in Hurricane, WV. Gatens – Harding Funeral Home 147 Main St. Poca assisted the Murphy family, and this obituary is courtesy of the Heavner & Cutright Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service.
