Philip’s Obituary Philip W. Pitts, age 74, of Sharon PA, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2019 at UPMC Passavant Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. Born July 31, 1944 in Sharon PA, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Lucille Harshman Pitts. He married the former Karen Young on August 14, 1971 and she survives at home.

Philip was a graduate of Edinboro University of Pennsylvania where he received both his Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Education. He served in the Army during the Vietnam War as a SP-5 and upon returning home took a job as a sixth grade teacher for the W. Middle School District, where he taught for 32 years before retiring in 2002. In his spare time Philip liked to collect antique radios and followed various radio sports announcers.

He umpired both baseball and softball for local high schools and also umpired church league softball games. He also kept the stats for the W. Middle High School Basketball Team. Philip was an active member of First Presbyterian Church in Sharon where he served as a Deacon.

In addition to his wife he is survived by a son Eric and his wife Sahar Pitts of Centreville, VA, a brother John and his wife Beverly Pitts of Sharon, PA, two sisters Judith Andrews of Douglas GA, and Sandra Chapman of Middlebrook VA, a sister-in-law Donna Young of Sharon PA, and one grandson Emil. Survived also by nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one sister Marilyn Moyer and her husband Bob and a brother-in-law Fred Young.

Visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 pm til 7:00 pm at The Harold W. Stevenson Funeral Home LLC. 264 E. State Street, Sharon,PA. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 am at the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon with the Rev.

Dr. Glenn Hink and Rev. Stacie Pitts officiating. Everyone is to meet at the church.

Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Sharon, 600 E. State Street, Sharon, Pa. 16146.
