Ramon Cortes Chavez February 17, 1941 – February 02, 2019 Share this obituary View/Sign Guest Book| Send Private Condolences Ramon Cortes Chavez, 77, of Lompoc passed away February 2, 2019, at home surrounded by family. He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Rebecca Ann (Ochoa) Chavez, his daughter Elizabeth (Lisa) Chavez, his son Jerry Chavez, his four grandchildren, Anthony, Nick, Rebecca Nicole, Sara Chavez, many brothers, sisters and other family members. He is preceded in death by his son, Ricardo R. Chavez and his parents Ramon A. Chavez and Paula Cortez.

Born on February 17, 1941 in Morelia, Michoacán, Mexico. In 1965 Ramon moved to Chicago for work. He then made his way to Lompoc where he started working for the Southern Pacific Rail Road in the B&B department, He worked hard his entire life to take care of his family.

His favorite pastime was watching his sons and grandsons play baseball. He was always so proud. After retiring from the railroad, he opened a video store, Family Video.

Working daily at the store, he enjoyed chatting with all those who entered. He always had a smile for everyone. He ran the store for many years and enjoyed meeting new people.

After closing the video store, the garden became Ramon’s favorite place to be. He would go out everyday and work on whatever gardening needed done. He especially enjoyed watching and culturing his fruit trees.

He enjoyed all his fruits and veggies harvested with his daughter Lisa. He was especially proud of his sweet corn crop last year. He will be greatly missed as he leaves a big hole in our family and we are forever sad.

May he rest in peace. Services are in the care of Starbuck-Lind Mortuary. A visitation will be held from 6pm–8pm with a vigil starting at 7pm on February 7, 2019.

Burial services will take place at Lompoc Evergreen Cemetery on Friday, February 8th at 10 AM.
