Obituary for Randy G. Hirn Randy G. Hirn, 64, of Kingsford, MI, passed away on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at the Oscar G. Johnson V.A. Medical Center in Iron Mountain. Randy was born on July 4, 1954 in Kingsford, the son of George J. Hirn, Jr. and the late Arlene (Poquette) Hirn. He graduated from Kingsford High School in 1972 and spent the next five plus years as a Seminarian from the Diocese of Marquette.
Randy then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force where he served his country with 4 years of active duty as a medical services specialist and 2 years in the reserves. The Boy Scouts of America was a huge part of Randy’s life. He spent 9 years as a scout, attaining the highest rank of Eagle Scout.
He also spent over 20 years as a Scoutmaster with 16 different troops across the country and received several Training Awards, Certificates of Appreciation and Distinguished Service Awards for his many years of service. Randy also had the privilege of presenting the rank of Eagle Scout to 20 scouts. In addition to his many years with the Boy Scouts, Randy was also involved with coaching grade school football, managing two hockey teams, tutoring, and volunteering with the Big Brothers/Big Sisters Program.
He was a member of American Martyrs Catholic Church in Kingsford and the Knights of Columbus. Randy enjoyed gardening and absolutely loved his dogs. He is survived by his father, George J. Hirn of Kingsford, MI; three brothers, Gary (Toni) Hirn of Arizona, Donald (Dawn) Hirn of Florence and Ronald (Lisa) Hirn of Green Bay; two sisters, Cindy Hirn (Ray) of Kenton, MI and Denise (Jesse) Brown of Kingsford, MI and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a nephew, Tony Sleik and a great niece, Haili Ann Dawson-Vaughan. Visitation will be held on Monday from 8:30 to 10:30 am at the Kingsford Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 am at American Martyrs Church in Kingsford.
Fr. Joseph Gouin will offer the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in the Quinnesec Cemetery.
