Rev. Dr. Bertha Hooks December 12, 1942 – February 15, 2019 Rev. Dr. Bertha M. Hooks 76, of Arcadia, Florida passed away on Friday, February 15, 2019 peacefully at home.

She was born on December 12, 1942 in Gunnison, MS to Henry Smith and Mary Allen. She is survived by her children: James Gant Smith of Arcadia, FL, Willie Gant Smith of Pascagoula, MS, Donita (Pete) Sesler of Wildwood, FL, John (Bretina) Gant of North Port, FL, Gracetta Ijames of Arcadia, FL, and Lonnie Ijames of Pascagoula, MS; sister: Marilyn (Carl) Piggott Smith of Miami, FL; brother: Alonzo Smith of Punta Gorda, FL; 20 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Rev.

Dr. Bertha Hooks has been a resident of Arcadia for 50 years; her work experience includes being an educator- Mentor, on the board of USF, owner operator of ABC learning Academy CRM, INC. She has earned her BA, MA, and PHD in theology; she was a faithful member of Assembly of Praise. Some of her hobbies include reading, teaching others, studying her bible, traveling, and what she loved best was spending time with her family.

She will be remembered by anyone who met her or knew her as a role model, her caring, generous, and sharing nature. Services will be held on Friday, February 22, 2019 family will receive friends from 6-8:00 PM at Ponger- Kays- Grady Funeral Homes 50 N. Hillsborough Ave Arcadia, FL. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church at 101 S. Orange Ave Arcadia, FL.
