Reverend Donald Milford Hardwick, age 65 of Whiteville went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, October 5, 2018 at the Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Lifecare Center in Whiteville. Final rites will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 7, 2018 at Worthington Funeral Home with Reverend William Kanupp, Reverend Chip Hannah and Reverend Charlie Smith officiating. Interment will follow in the Happy Home Baptist Church Cemetery in Nakina.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Saturday at Worthington Funeral Home in Chadbourn. He attended Fruitland Baptist Bible Institute in Hendersonville and served at Shell Point Baptist Church in Shallotte, Mill Spring Baptist Church in Mill Spring, NC and Elah Baptist Church in Leland; Minister of Music at Soldier Bay Baptist Church in Ash and as a supply minister at many other churches during his career. Donald was a former police officer in Whiteville from 1973 until 1983 and also served as a volunteer at the Whiteville Fire Department and the Nakina Rescue.

He also served as Chaplin for the Whiteville Police Department and Fire Department until his health declined in 2016. He was the son of the late Mary Valma Ray Hardwick and Milford Mack Hardwick and was preceded in death by a brother, Jimmy Dale Hardwick. To cherish his memory, he leaves his wife, Wanda Annette Smith Hardwick of the home; two siblings, Michael Devon Hardwick (Lorraine) of Tabor City and Rita Kay Hersey (Wade) of Loris, SC and many nieces and nephews.
