Obituary for Rex Allen Shirley Rex Allen Shirley Sr., 73, of Hookerton, passed away on May 29, 2018 at Vidant Medical Center. He was born on August 17, 1944 in Greene Co., NC to Howard and Doris Mozingo Shirley. Rex was preceded in death by both parents and one brother, Robert Earl Shirley.

He was a member of Mt. Calvery FWB Church in Hookerton. Rex retired as a Correctional Captain from the NC Dept.

of Corrections after 30 years of service. He enjoyed his retirement by spending time with family and friends. He was an avid outdoorsman and looked forward to the next hunting or fishing adventure.

Rex will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Left behind to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 54 years, Mrs. Alice Shirley, of the home; two sons, Rex Allen Shirley Jr. and wife, Lisa, of Hookerton and Randell “Randy” Shirley, of Winterville; one brother, Horace Ray Shirley and wife, Glenda, of Hookerton and three very special grandchildren, Allen Blake Shirley, Tyler Steven Shirley and companion, Megan and Colby Mark Shirley and fiance, Hannah. He is also survived by many extended family members and friends.

Funeral Service will be held on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at 2:00pm at Farmer Funeral Service-Ayden. Interment will follow in the Farmville Town Cemetery. The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home.
