Obituary for Ada L. Holton On January 27, 2018 at 3:15pm, Ada L. Sutton Holton, 88, passed peacefully at home with her family by her side and entered her heavenly mansion, as her sweetheart Tess welcomed his little red headed sweetie with open arms. She was born July 22, 1929 in the Black Jack Community of Pitt County to Claude and Lela Mills Sutton, who predeceases her. She is also predeceased by 3 brothers, Scott, Will and Hubert Sutton and two sisters, Olive Stocks and Betty Everette.

At the age of 6, she moved to Venters Crossroads where she grew up. On November 18, 1947, she married the love of her life of almost 50 years, Tess L. Holton, who preceded her on September 29, 1997 and they moved to Clayroot. They both lived and farmed in the Clayroot Community where she then later went to work at Lisa’s Manufacturing and Sewing Factory in Grifton, NC and next worked at Hookerton Sewing Factory until her retirement.

She loved visiting family and friends and could be found sporting around the country roads in her little white corolla with her Clayroot NC license plate. She dearly loved Clayroot, her neighbors, and meeting new people. She was described by her close friend, Phillip Smith, as being the “Matriarch of Clayroot”.

Ada would have considered this to be the biggest compliment coming from a man of few words. Every morning that she was able, she went out to Haddocks Grill to get her three cheese biscuits, chat and carry on with her buddies. She always stayed busy either washing or folding clothes, washing dishes, raking yards or picking up limbs.

Oh, and do not dare tell her she had no business doing these things either or her feisty little red headed temper would come out. She always stayed busy and wanted to help everyone. Even right before her stroke on December 3, 2017 and her health deteriorated she was helping look after her terminally ill neighbor and friend.

She always thought of others before she did herself and never complained. Ada loved everyone and everyone loved her. She is survived by one daughter, Joyce H. Saulter and husband, CB, of the home; two grandchildren, Craig Saulter and Christy from Grifton, NC and Kimberly S. Arrington and friend, Charles Reaves from Ayden, NC; five great grandchildren, Casey Bjork and Grace from Clayroot, NC, Jordan Arrington from Grifton, NC, Justin and Anna Saulter from Grifton, NC and Austin Arrington from New Bern, NC and three great great grandchildren, Skylar, Jackson and Tessa Bjork, from Clayroot, NC and her faithful pup, Midnight.

Also, her extended family, Richie Thornburn, Joan Worthington, Phillip Smith, Joyce Andrews, Scott Foy, Steven Reynolds, Doris Roach, Shirley Buck and Lou Faircloth and many more friends than she ever could have imagined. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the outpouring of love, thoughts, prayers and many acts of kindness to her neighbors, family and friends during her last days.

She truly loved each one of you. Also, a special thank you to the staff of Vidant Hospital and Palliative Care during her stay. Thank you to Vidant Home Health and Hospice, her nurse, Devon Barkman and her aid, Nikki Litt for their care, compassion prayers and many kind words during her last days at home.

She loved both of you very much. Visitation will be held on Tuesday night, January 30, 2018 from 6 to 7pm with the Funeral Service to follow immediately at 7:00pm at Farmer Funeral Service-Chapel with Pastor Sherwood Page and Pastor David Butts officiating.
