Obituary for Richard Alexander Schimek Richard Alexander Schimek, 90, of Rochester, Minnesota, passed away Tuesday December 11, 2018 at Saint Mary’s Hospital with his family at his side. Richard was born January 20, 1928 in Fairbault County, Minnesota to Madeline (Willette) and John Schimek. Richard married Arlene Stoike on February 18, 1950 at Slayton, Minnesota.

Richard served in the United States Navy from 1946 to 1948, serving in the Pacific. Richard was a crop and dairy farmer his entire life, farming in the Morris, Albert Lea, Spring Valley, and eventually settling in the Rock Dell, Minnesota area until his retirement in 1993. Richard and Arlene made their retirement home in the Apache Junction, Arizona area for 13 years, then moving back to Rochester to be closer to family.

Richard enjoyed watching the Minnesota Vikings and the Minnesota Twins. He was an American Legion member, and enjoyed snowmobiling, and traveling in his motorhome. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Arlene; children, Diane Bussman, Carol Schimek, Raymond (Barb) Schimek, Harold Schimek, Mary (Mark) Nelson, Steven Schimek, Karen (Ron) Yngsdal, Debbie (Joe) Golberg, Roger (Sherry) Schimek, Bonnie (Jim) Youngren, Tim Schimek, Tracy (Dan) Womeldorff, Robert Schimek, Brenda Schimek, Jill (Mike) Hinni, and Renee Bell; 24 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.
