A homegoing celebration for Mr. Richard Daniel Robinson of Tampa, Florida who passed away on Friday, May 4, 2018 will be held on Saturday, May 19th, 10:00 a.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 3005 E. Ellicott Street, Tampa, FL 33610, Pastor Larry Mouton, Jr., officiating. The interment will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery. Richard was born September 20, 1952, in Tampa, Florida’s West Hyde Park area.

He was the sixth child born of George Allen and Jessie Hartsfield Robinson, Sr. Richard grew up in Tampa and graduated from H. W. Blake High School, where he studied wood shop and masonry and played in the marching concert and jazz bands. Richard went on to graduate with a bachelor’s degree from Florida A & M University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering. While at FAMU, he continued his love of music as a member of the FAMU Marching 100 and touring with the Devastations Band.

He spent part of his career at the Tampa Housing Authority, but for over 25 years, he was employed with Griener Engineering. At Griener, later known as URS, he was instrumental in getting many graduating engineers at FAMU hired. Richard had his own company where he remodeled many buildings throughout Florida.

He was a lifelong student of his trade and enjoyed mentoring high school students for college and college students for life. Richard loved his children, Richard H. Robinson and Chelsa (Robinson) Salley. A lover of traveling, Richard often went with them all over the world.

He was often seen with his grandchildren, who truly held a special place in Richard’s heart. Richard was a faithful member of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, where he sung in the Men’s Choir and held a position of secretary. He also traveled with the Blake High School Class of ’70 and was a bowler for over 20 years.

A die-hard Rattler, he attended many FAMU football games. Richard left this world on May 4, 2018, to meet his Lord and Savior. This earth has lost a true soldier and will be forever be missed by his children, Richard H. (Lasheka) Robinson and Chelsa (David) Salley.

He will also be missed by his brothers and sister, George A. Robinson, Jr., Gloria R. Green, Walter (Mary) Robinson, Lorenzo (Virginia) Robinson and Lawrence (Darlene) Robinson; grandchildren, David Robinson, Joshua Hall, Jeremiah Sheppard, Kayin Salley, Ja’Laya Robinson and Jocelyn Robinson; great-grandchildren, Aubrey Robinson, Jordan Robinson and Daniel Lee Robinson; special friends, Ersula Odom and Linda Letzkus; a host of nieces and nephews, New Hope Church members, class members and fellow Rattlers. The visitation will be held at Aikens Funeral Home on Friday, May 18th from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. The family and friends are asked to meet at the church on Saturday for the service.
