Obituary for Richard “Dick” Smart Richard “Dick” Smart, 86, of Kingsford, MI (formerly of Quinnesec, MI) went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 3, 2018 at the Dickinson County Hospital in Iron Mountain. He was born December 10, 1931 in Iron Mountain and was the second of five children born to the late Howard and Hazel (Bates) Smart. Dick grew up on a farm in Randville and graduated from Channing High School in 1951.

He married Carole Hansen on April 19, 1963. They were blessed to celebrate fifty years of marriage before she preceded him in death on August 22, 2013. Richard worked for the Groveland Mine for many years, retiring in 1981 when the mine closed.

He was a former member of Immanual Baptist Church of Kingsford and currently attended First Baptist Church in Norway. He was an accomplished piano player and directed the choir for many years while at Immanual Baptist church. He and his late wife Carole played and sang at many church and community functions.

Besides his love for music, Dick enjoyed reading and gardening. He also loved being with his family, friends, and church family. He looked forward to attending church functions, family picnics and get-togethers, and being part of bible study groups.

He always thought of others and was always willing to lend a hand in any way he could. He saw the good in everyone. He lived to serve, and his life was a testament to his faith in Jesus Christ.

He will be missed by family and friends. He is survived by his two sons, Cory Smart and Brad (Kristy) Smart, both of Iron Mountain; six grandchildren, Geoff, David, Laura, Kathryn, Russell, and Ellie; two sisters, Barbara (Ken) Fontecchio of Wasilla, Alaska and Mary Jane Smart of Kingsford, MI; one sister-in-law, Betty Smart of Kingsford, MI; also many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by one brother, David Smart and one sister, Charlotte “Pat” ton.

Friends may call from 9:00 am until 11:00 am Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the First Baptist Church in Norway. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am Saturday at the Church. Pastor Warren Geldmeier will officiate.
