Obituary for Richard L. Burr Richard “Dick” Burr, 72 Kearney resident Richard L. Burr, 72, of Kearney died Saturday, September 15, 2018 at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 am Wednesday at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Kearney with lunch to follow. The Rev.
Paul Colling will celebrate. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Gibbon following lunch. A celebration of life at the Gibbon American Legion will be held following burial.
Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at the church followed by a 7:00 pm Vigil Prayer Service. Memorials in Dick’s name are kindly suggested to the Prince of Peace Food Pantry or the UNK Loper Football Backers. Condolences may be shared online at www.
osrfh.com. Services are entrusted to O’Brien Straatmann Redinger Funeral and Cremation Services. Richard L. “Dick” Burr was born January 22, 1946 in Kearney, Nebraska to Roy and Elaine (Rohde) Burr.
He grew up near Eddyville and was a 1964 graduate of Eddyville High School. Dick went on to attend Kearney State College where he played football for one year. On November 12, 1966 Dick was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart and love of his life Connie Snyder.
The couple made their first home in Eddyville. Dick was employed by Wheelers/Orschelns for 36 years at several locations in Nebraska and most recently in Kearney. Dick and Connie lived in Gibbon for a majority of those years and most recently in Kearney.
Following his career at Orschelns, Dick managed the Gibbon American Legion for 2 years and then worked at Menards. Dick was an avid sports fan. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, gardening, and being outdoors.
As a dad he followed and enjoyed watching his sons in all their sporting events. He enjoyed making breakfast and playing cards in the goose blind and teaching his boys to hunt. Annual fishing trips to South Dakota with his sons, grandsons, brother and nephews was a particular favorite of Dick’s.
His interest in sports continued as grandchildren arrived as he rarely missed an event or activity. He was known for mentoring young people at work. Dick was a member of Prince of Peace Catholic Church where he was active in the food pantry and Liturgy Committee.
He was a past member of the Nebraska National Guard and the Riverside Cemetery Board and current member of the American Legion and Sons of American Legion. Dick was a loyal UNK Loper fan. For 32 years, Dick was a member of the chain gang for all the UNK home football games.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Connie Burr of Kearney; sons Brent Burr and wife Amber of Gibbon, Dan Burr and wife Alyssa of Shelton; grandchildren Jamie, Nicole, Brienna, Christian, Kalen, Emily, and Addison; great grandchildren Jace, Connor, Riley, Timothy, and Timery; mother Elaine Burr of Gibbon; brother Kenny Burr and wife Sandy of Sumner; sister Charlotte Myrick and husband Jim of Gibbon, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family.
