Richard “Dick” Ray, 76, of Bettendorf, Iowa, formerly of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at the Bettendorf Health Care Center. A celebration of life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday at McGinnis Chambers Funeral Home in Bettendorf. Visitation will be held Friday from 2:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.

Dick was born on March 8, 1942 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the son of Martin Joseph and Esther Lorraine (Rowe) Ray. Dick and his younger brother, Robert, were raised primarily in Cedar Rapids. Dick graduated from Boys Town High School in Omaha, Nebraska in 1960.

Shortly thereafter, he joined the U.S. Air Force, but was discharged due to medical reasons. He met his wife, Judy L. DeLarm in Cedar Rapids in 1964. They were married for 51 years and together they raised four children.

Dick worked as an electrician and in maintenance for various companies including, Flexsteel, Montgomery Wards, Celatex, Georgia Pacific, Clinton Engines, and Kennedy Mall in Dubuque. He and Judy also operated an electrical sales and service shop for a short time. He is survived by his wife, Judy Ray of Bettendorf; children, Tracey L. Walters of South Bend, Indiana, Tania M. (Richard) Gustafson of Bettendorf, Tarryl M. (Sharon) Ray of Corpus Christi, Texas, Richard J. (Kimberly) Ray of Bay City, Michigan; three children from his first marriage, Georgina S. Ray Baker of Texas, John Ray, Vernon Ray; 12 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
