Richard “Rick” Allen Hughes, age 57, loving son, brother, uncle and fiercely loyal friend to many, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 3, 2018, following a battle with cancer. The son of Lillian Katherine Hughes of Marion and the late Joe Hughes. Rick was born in McDowell County on January 25, 1961.

In his youth, Rick was affectionally known as “Collar Bone” and was a career A.S.E. certified auto mechanic for over 30 years. In his later years, Rick enjoyed golf, playing guitar and enjoyed listening to blues music and was an avid UNC Tar Heels and Miami Dolphins fan. In addition to his mother, he is survived by one brother, David Hughes and his wife, Jackie of Raleigh, North Carolina; and one niece, Cassie Thomas and her husband, Wes of Cary, North Carolina.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 7, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Beam Funeral Service with Pastor Matt McDaniel officiating. Interment will follow at McDowell Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home.
