Robert Leonard Adams (Bob), 70, Indiana, died Monday, February 18, 2019 while at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh. The son of Robert and Rosemarie Elizabeth (O’Keefe) Adams, he was born June 19, 1948 in Detroit, MI. Mr. Adams was a graduate of Lincoln High School in Michigan and later received a Bachelor and Master’s Degree at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania in Human Res Management.
He had been employed as a coal miner for approximately 14 years, a long-haul truck driver for many years, and then employed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry, Indiana office, from where he retired after 17 years of service. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church of Cherry Tree. Bob was community oriented having served as the Mayor of Cherry Tree as well as being a member of the town council and volunteer at the fire department.
He was actively involved in the baseball programs in the Cherry Tree area as a coach for more than 10 years where he raised support to enhance and improve upon the facilities for generations to come. He enthusiastically enjoyed all sports and the occasional round of golf. Bob followed the example that his father set before him and became a leader in the Boy Scouts of America.
He encouraged young men in the community and actively assisted in projects which earned several of those young men their Eagle Scout Rank, one of which was his own Grandson, Nicholas. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. Surviving are his wife, Diana (Hankinson) Adams, Indiana; children, Robert George Edward (Kelly) Adams, Stephen City, VA, Michelle René Adams and her fiancée, Michael Barnett, Indiana; and William Leonard (Edith) Adams, Retired Chief, United States Navy, Olongapo City, Philippines; grandchildren, Nicholas (Rachel) Adams, Olivia Catharine Rose Adams, all from Stephen City, Brandon Wolfgang and Zaya Barnett, both of Indiana, Scott Adams, TX, Joshua Adams, United States Marine Corps, stationed in CA, Joseph Adams, Olongapo City, Philippines, step-grandchildren, Michelle, Jennifer, Thomas, and Mary; sisters, Chris Singer, Tamarac FL, Carol Demarest, Phoenix AZ, Cindy (John) Frenier, Las Vegas, NV; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding Robert in death were his parents. Friends will be received on Friday from 6-9 p.m. at the John A. Lefdahl Funeral Home and Saturday 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at which time the funeral service will be conducted. Interment will follow in the Montgomery Cemetery.
