Obituary for Robert J. Coon Robert J.”Bob” Coon, age 91, of Washington, Iowa, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018, at the Washington County Hospital following a decline in health. . A celebration of life service will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2018, at the United Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction with Rev.

Dennis Coon and Rev. Christian Coon officiating. Visitation will begin 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 29th at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home in Washington where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Interment will be held at Columbus City Cemetery in Columbus City. Memorials have been established for the United Presbyterian Church in Columbus Junction or Friends of Lake Darling. Online condolences may be sent for Bob’s family through the web at www.

jonesfh.com Bob was born July 24, 1926, in rural Winfield, Iowa, the son of John Swisher and Luella June (Hoover) Coon. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1944. Bob was united in marriage to Carol M. Coon on December 24, 1944 at the United Presbyterian Church Manse in Columbus Junction, Iowa.

Following their marriage, Bob served honorably in the United States Navy. Bob has lived in Washington, Fairfield and Mt. Pleasant, returning to Washington in 2006.

He worked his entire life in the Agribusiness Industry. He most recently worked for the Natural Re Conservation Service (NRCS) for twenty years, retiring at the age of 82. Bob loved providing habitat for and observing wildlife.

He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye sports fan and enjoyed being around people. He especially enjoyed traveling with his wife and the time spent with his family. Bob is survived by his son, John Daniel Coon of Iowa City, Iowa; son, David Coon and wife Lynn of Tucson, Arizona; son, Rev.

Dennis Coon and wife Patty of Ankeny, Iowa; daughter, Cathy Kleese of Washington, Iowa; son, Dr. Thomas Coon and wife Rhonda of Stillwater, Oklahoma; daughter, Cynthia Giannini and husband Joe of Mt. Vernon, Iowa; 12 grandchildren: Suzanne Sorensen and husband Eric; Rev. Christian Coon and wife Anne; Corey Coon and wife Ryan; Troy Kleese and wife Pam; Tracy Kleese and wife Amy; Tim Kleese and wife Amanda; Morgan Holtz; Travis Eichelberger and wife Rubi; Ashley Ernst and husband Matt; Tyler Eichelberger and wife Jacquie; Robert Coon and wife Emily; and Charles Coon; 18 great-grandchildren: Caroline and Ethan Coon; Rylin and Logan Kleese; Lincoln, Sophia and Abigail Kleese; Noah, Jack and Isaac Kleese; Jordan, Payton and Charlynn Holtz; Hannah and Isaac Ernst, Channing and Raeline Eichelberger and Mason Eichelberger; many nieces and nephews; and his extended family at the United Presbyterian Home.
