Obituary for Lawrence Meek Whisler Lawrence Meek Whisler, age 99, of Washington, passed away Wednesday, July 11, 2018, at his residence. Celebration of life services will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, July 14, 2018, at the United Presbyterian Church. Calling hours will begin 3:00 p.m. Friday, July 13th at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Interment with military honors will take place at Elm Grove Cemetery in Washington.

Online condolences may be sent for Lawrence’s family through the web at www. jonesfh.com Lawrence was born June 28, 1919, in the same house where he passed, in Washington County, Iowa, the son of Percy F. “P.F.” and Leona Estella (Meek) Whisler.

He graduated from Washington High School in 1937, from the University of Colorado in 1942 and from the University of Colorado College of Law in 1948. He served honorably during WWII in the Army Air Corp as a part of the 318th Fighter Squadron. During his service, he flew a P51 and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Lawrence was united in marriage to Shirley Escher on April 1, 1959, in Elwood City, PA. Lawrence farmed his entire life. He was an active member of the United Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder, Deacon and Head Usher.

He maintained a lifelong passion for training horses and mules and working with horse drawn equipment. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Whisler of Washington, IA; son, Todd Whisler and wife Missy of Flower Mound, TX, and their children, Talon, Tori, Bradley, Benjamin, and Abby; son, Trent Whisler and wife Teresa of Lancaster, PA, and their children, McKenna and Mariah (Bradley) Sensenich; son, Tork Whisler and wife Tricia of Washington, IA, and their children, Clay and Sawyer; great-grandsons: Salem and Jackson Sensenich; and one sister, Frances Nathanson of Cedar Rapids, IA. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Raymond.
