Obituary for Sharon Evans Sharon Evans, age 74, of Washington, passed away Monday, July 9, 2018 at the United Presbyterian Home in Washington. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 13, 2018 at the United Presbyterian Church with Chaplain Andrew Zuehlke officiating. Calling hours will begin at noon on Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Jones & Eden Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5:30 until 8:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
Interment will be held at Elm Grove Cemetery. Memorials have been established for Hospice of Washington County and Sharon’s great-grandchildren, Everlee and Breckyn Vittetoe, for needs associated with Congenital Disorders of Glycosylation (CDG). jonesfh.com Sharon Diana Evans was born February 25, 1944, in Ashland, Kansas, to parents Richard “Wayne” and Violet (Curl) Erwin. She grew up in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1962. She was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Paul “Butch” Evans, on September 20, 1962, and together they raised three children.
Early in her marriage, Sharon was a homemakers and she used her creative talents to do many things including decorating cakes, knitting and sewing, ceramics, tole painting, and arranging flowers. She also was a leader for Blue Birds, Camp Fire, and Cub Scouts. When her children were older, Sharon attended floral design school at Texas A&M University.
She worked at many local floral shops, including Wolf Floral in Kalona, and retired as the manager of the floral department at Hy-Vee in Washington. Sharon loved decorating for Christmas, especially for Fortnightly Club, which she hosted at her home. In addition to her numerous trees, she enjoyed displaying her lighted village for family and friends to admire.
Sharon is survived by her husband Paul; children: Tammy Vittetoe and husband Tom, Terry Evans and friend Lorri Walker, and Tom Evans and wife Julie all of Washington; 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; one sister: Patricia Stacy of Wayland; one brother: Richard “Rick” Erwin and wife Ruth of Fulton, Missouri; sisters-in-law: Mary Coon and husband Jim and Carol Greiner and husband Dave; brother-in-law: Tim Evans and wife Michal all of Washington; and many other family members.
