Obituary for Robert J. Marten Robert J. Marten, age 57, of Fairview Heights, Illinois passed away at 4:25 a.m. Monday, October 29, 2018, at Cedar Ridge Health Care Center in Lebanon, Illinois. Robert was born January 14, 1961, in Decatur, Illinois the son of the late Bernard & Helen (Kane) Marten. At the age of 19, Robert joined the United States Air Force and honorably served his country.
He retired as a Master Sergeant but continued to serve the USAF as a civilian contractor for a combined total of 36 years of service. Robert was a Patriot and proud American. He loved his family and friends dearly and was known and will be remembered for a man who had a “zest” for life and fun.
Robert was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8677 in Fairview Heights, American Legion and Knights of Columbus. Robert was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Jessica Marten. He is survived by 2 sons, Ryan Marten of Maryville, Illinois and Tyler Marten of the U.S. Air Force; 2 daughters Jacqueline Toigo & husband Andrew of Edwardsville, Illinois and Courtney Marten of Collinsville and their mother, Tracy Davis of Collinsville, Illinois; 2 grandchildren, Taylor Johnson of Shiloh and Ally Moore of Belleville; 3 brothers, Dennis Marten of Independence, Missouri, Richard Marten & wife Jill of Woodridge, Illinois, and James Marten & wife Valerie of Bellingham, Washington; and 2 sisters, Barbara Marten of Decatur, Illinois and Elizabeth Nation of Decatur.
He was also survived by a number of extended family and friends. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, November 1, 2018, at Weber & Rodney Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 2, 2018, at the funeral home.
Interment with military honors will be at Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. Memorials may be given to the Veteran’s Community Project or your local Veteran’s Service Organization. Condolences may be expressed online at weberfuneralhome.com.
