Obituary for Robert R. Schwaegler, M.D. Robert Roy “Dr. Bob” Schwaegler, M.D., 83, of Beloit, WI, died Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at Riverside Terrace. He was born on August 8, 1934 in Dubuque, IA, the son of Roy and Bertha (Smith) Schwaegler. He married Carol Marugg on June 16, 1957 in Dubuque, IA.
Robert received his M.D. degree from the University of Iowa School of Medicine in 1960. Affectionately known as Dr. Bob, he practiced in the Beloit area from 1965 until his retirement in 1995. Robert was a General Practitioner and Surgeon, and the founder of Medical Associates Ltd., Beloit.
Bob was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church and the United Church of Beloit. He was a Deacon, Elder, choir member, Sunday School Teacher, and Adult Study Leader. He was the team Doctor for Beloit College football and basketball programs.
He was a member of Hands of Faith, the past President and Board Member of (SLU) Society of Learning Unl. , the 9 O’Clock Scholars of Beloit College, Friends of the Riverfront, Past President of the Art League of Beloit, Friends of the Beloit Library, a Beloit Regional Hospice volunteer, Meals on Wheels volunteer, and a Caritas board member. He led the first “Beeper Call” program of Rock County and in 2002 he received the President’s Medal from Beloit College.
In 2009 he received the University of Dubuque Distinguished Alumnus Award. Survivors include his wife, Carol; children, Steven (Susan) Schwaegler, Janet (Rick) Gillis, and James Schwaegler; grandchildren, Gregory (Libby) Schwaegler, Timothy (Reanna) Schwaegler, Katherine (Michael) Womack, Jacalyn (Lann) Ellis, Emily (Alex) Terry, Matthew Gillis, Tyler Schwaegler, and Ashley Schwaegler; great grandchildren, Anna, Adam, Maria, and Maggie; brothers, Bruce (Sarah) Schwaegler and David Schwaegler; and nephew, Andrew (Victoria) Schwaegler. He was predeceased by his parents; granddaughter, Mary Rose Schwaegler; daughter-in-law, Ann Schwaegler.
Memorials may be given in Doctor’s name to the United Church of Beloit, Caritas, or Beloit Regional Hospice. A service of remembrance will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2018 in the United Church of Beloit, 657 Bluff St., Beloit, WI, with Pastor Carol P. Taylor officiating. Visitation of remembrance will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Rd.
