Obituary for Robert Vernon Tankersley Appling, GA – Robert Vernon Tankersley, 86, husband of Nanette Blanchard Tankersley, entered into rest on Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at Doctors Hospital of Augusta. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, October 8, 2018, in the Damascus Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend James Hyder and the Reverend Joe Hester officiating. Mr. Tankersley, a lifelong resident of Appling, was the son of Edward and Erma Tankersley.

He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a retired Resident Engineer for the Georgia Department of Transportation. Mr. Tankersley was the owner of Tanks Used Cars in Phinizy and was a member of Dunn’s Chapel United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Nanette Tankersley; one daughter, Joyce “Robbie” Wiley; two brothers, Leonard Tankersley (Dean) and Jimmy Tankersley (Shirley); one sister, Joyce Tankersley Starnes (Tom); two grandchildren, Natalie Wiley (Jon Lee) and Tripp Anderson (Marsha); three Great-grandchildren, Hali Wiley, McKenzie Anderson and Parker Anderson.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Tankersley Anderson and a grandson, Robert Blanchard Anderson. If so desired, memorials may be made to Dunn’s Chapel Cemetery Fund, 6563 Ridge Road, Appling, GA 30802. Pallbearers will be Ramsey Harris, Tripp Anderson, Jimmy Ware, Mike McCombs, Jon Lee and Dennis Thomas.
