Robert Winton, 99, of Waukegan, Illinois, formerly of Quinnesec, passed away on May 11, 2019 at his home. He was born October 31, 1919 in Hibbing, Minnesota, son of Norman Winton. Robert was a highly decorated WWII veteran, having served in the United States Army as a Staff Sergeant where he earned a Silver Star Medal and other recognitions.

He worked for the fire department in Great Lakes, Illinois before moving to the Upper Peninsula where he spent the last 30 years enjoying hunting, fishing and gardening. Most of all, he loved his family, especially his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He was a member of the Methodist Church.

He is survived by his son, Robert (Aurelia “Augie”) Winton, 8 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren and a couple of great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, LaVerne and two daughters, Barbara and Bonnie. Visitation will be held Thursday, May 30, 2019 from 9:00 – 11:00 am at Erickson-Rochon & Nash Funeral Home in Iron Mountain.

A memorial service will follow at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor Lee Liverance will officiate. Burial will be in Quinnesec Cemetery.
