Obituary for Roberta A. “Burt” Gauthreaux Roberta A. “Burt” Gauthreaux was born and raised in Wardsboro, Vermont. She graduated from Leland Gray High School in 1967 and worked in the medical field and office administration before moving to Louisiana in 1975. She resided with her husband, F. J. “Phil” Gauthreaux outside Napoleonville for the past 42 years.
She was a dedicated US Postal clerk and retired with 26 years of service. She was preceded in death by her parents Chester and Alta Cole; her sister Francis Lucier and her twin brother Robert Cole. She is survived by two sisters, Ruth Slade and Joan Stiab and one brother William Cole Jr.; her husband F.J. Gauthreaux; one son, Phil M. Gauthreaux and wife Stephanie; one daughter Samantha L. Coker and husband Shawn; one stepdaughter, Lisa A. Gauthreaux; and three grandchildren, Ruby Coker, Ashley Gauthreaux, and Cole Gauthreaux.
Burt’s life was her family and her grandchildren. She was totally devoted to her children and always encouraged and expected the best from them. She was very much a people person who always spoke her piece and let you know what was on her mind.
Although she grew up in Vermont and spent the early part of her life there, she was a “true transplant” to Louisiana if ever there was one. She quickly adapted to the cajun culture and she could cook cajun dishes with the best in the area. We wish to thank the Oncology Department at West Jefferson Medical Center in New Orleans for their devotion and persistence on Burt’s behalf.
Thanks also to St. Joseph’s Hospice in Thibodaux for all of their medical and spiritual assistance during our time of need. A special thanks to Debbie Gauthreaux who stayed close to Burt to the end and worked tirelessly to make her as comfortable as possible. Last but certainly not least, thanks to our children Samantha, Lisa, and Phil who helped us get through the tough times, and to my siblings who helped whenever and wherever needed: Brenda Aucoin and husband John Aucoin; Elaine Edens and husband Buddy Edens; Sam Gauthreaux and wife Debbie Gauthreaux; Marian Gauthreaux, Toddy Gauthreaux, and Russell Gauthreaux.
