Roger G. Rose, 77, of Hanover, PA, entered into God’s eternal care, Friday, May 4, 2018 at the Hanover Hall Nursing Center. Born March 4, 1941 in Marion, NC, he was the son of the late Garner and Ruth (Swofford) Rose. Roger was the loving husband of Patricia L. (Hatchell) Rose with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.

Mr. Rose was a graduate of Kenwood Senior High School, Baltimore, MD, Chinese Language School, Monterey, Ca, and the University of Maryland. Roger served his country proudly in the United States Army from 1960 – 1967. He worked for the NSA and DIA as a translator being fluent in Chinese – Mandarin.

He was awarded a presidential Citation for his work. Mr. Rose became a Baltimore City Police Officer following his time in the service. His career was highlighted in a series of newspaper articles in the News American entitled “The Light in the Basement”.

He was also named officer of the year. After retiring from the police force he worked as a social worker and later as a bailiff in the Carroll County Court System. Roger was a member of Hope Baptist Church, Hanover, PA and a former member of Middle River Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Bus Ministry Director.

In addition to his wife Patricia, Roger is survived by his daughters, Jodi R. Cichetti and husband Anthony G. Sr. of Hanover, PA, Laura M. Tobin and husband Dan of Abingdon, MD, 7 grandchildren, Anthony G. Cichetti, Jr., Eric R. Cichetti, Joshua M. Bona, Alex J. Bona, Gregory Tobin, Brent Tobin, Danny Tobin, one sister in law, Barbara Rose, and one niece Amy Rose. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Robin L. Rose, one brother, Rodney E. Rose, and one nephew, Jeffrey Rose. A funeral service to celebrate and remember Roger’s life will be held 11:00AM, Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Hope Baptist Church, 6450 Hope Way, Hanover, PA, with his Pastor the Rev.

Allen G. Harris officiating. A visitation and time to share memories with the family will be held from 10:00-11:00AM, Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope Baptist Church or Hope Christian School, 6450 Hope Way, Hanover, PA 17331.
