Obituary for Ronald Freistone Ronald “Ron” Freistone, age 74 of Glendive, Montana passed away on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. A private family memorial with military honors will be held. A celebration of Ron’s life will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at the Glendive VFW Post 1125.
Silha Funeral Home of Glendive has been entrusted with the arrangements. Ron was born on August 7, 1943 in Glendive to Ole and Doris (Simonson) Freistone. He was raised and educated in Glendive graduating from Dawson County High School with the class of 1961.
Following high school Ron attended Dawson Community College for a short time before he enlisted in the United States Army. Ron served as a paratrooper for two years before receiving his honorable discharge. After his service to our country, Ron returned to Montana and worked at a gas station in Baker, Montana for a year.
It was during this time that Ron was united in marriage to Anne Greiman on March 20, 1964 and to this union four daughters were born. They later moved to Miles City, Montana where Ron worked for LP Anderson before returning to Glendive in 1967 to begin his career as a lineman with MDU. Ron and his family moved to Sidney, Montana for a few years when he was a foreman of a lineman crew until they returned to Glendive in 1979.
Shortly after returning to Glendive, Ron was severely electrocuted on the job. Ron never let his injuries slow him down and he continued to work with MDU until his retirement in 2005. He remained in Glendive until the time of his passing.
Ron loved to hunt, fish, camp and search for agates and arrowheads. His rule during camping picnics was “If a bug lands on your plate, you eat the bug”. Although his girls learned about five years ago that Ron broke his own rule and avoided eating a huge miller that landed on his plate!
He was a great story teller and enjoyed telling jokes with his coworkers and playing a few practical jokes on them as well, like putting honey on the toilet seat. Ron always told family members the phrase that gets the best smile for pictures is “Turkey Poop”. He was a great steward of the land and had a lot of respect for the outdoors.
Ron was a member of the IBEW and the VFW. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Eileen Freistone; an infant brother Robert Freistone and his favorite bird dog Dan. He is survived by his wife Anne Freistone of Glendive; four daughters and ten grandchildren, Janine (Gerald) Huschka of Glendive and their children, Padyn (Brittney), Skylar and Baylee; Kathleen (Stacy) Rakes of Avondale, Arizona and their children, Kristen and Carson; Susan (Lance) Ceynar of Glendive and their children, Ryan, Garrett (Karina) and Lindsey; Erin (Ty) Kuehn of Glendive and their children, Nathan and Emily; three sisters, Bonnie Freistone (Donna Lindell) of Bermuda Dunes, California, Becky (Jim) Hicks of Glendive and Linda Fraughton of Inkom, Idaho; one brother, Wes (Cindy) Freistone of Anchorage, Alaska; adopted sister, April Freistone of Miles City and numerous nieces and nephews.
