Rosena “Edna” Kapper, age 99,of Elwood, passed away surrounded by her family on Monday, February 18, 2019 at her residence. Edna was born in Akron, Ohio on November 10, 1919 to Edward and Rosena (Layton) Tweddell. Edna married Alvin “Al” Kapper on June 1, 1941 and they shared 40 years of marriage together.

Al preceded her in death on Nov. 19, 1981. Al and Edna moved to Elwood in 1949, where Al owned and operated EMKA Machine Shop.

Edna was a housewife and raised 6 children. In her spare time she loved to golf, bowl, sew Raggedy Anne and Andy dolls to give to others, enjoyed music and dancing and reading books. Edna was a faithful member of the St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a 20 year member of the Sisters of St. Joseph.

Enda was also a member of the Elwood Lady Lions and a longtime member of Kappa Delta Phi Gamma Tau for over55 years. Edna volunteered as a pink lady at Mercy Hospital for 60 years. Edna is survived by her Daughter, Elizabeth “Liz” and Frank Stansberry of Elwood, IN, Daughter, Eloise Bayne of Speedway, IN, Daughter, Rosemay and Tom Killrain of Star Valley Ranch, WY, Son, Charles Kapper of Indianapolis, IN, Son, Paul and Stella Kapper of Batavia, OH, Son, Edward and Jenny Kapper of Tipton, IN, grandchildren Michelle Stansberry, Annette Stansberry Gentrup, Matt Stansberry, Stacey Kron, Derek Means, Chanda Kapper-Jarrett, Chris Kapper and Jake Kapper, great grandchildren, Haniah, Bryce, Myalissa Stansberry, Kaden & Alexandra Gentrup, Lilli Taylor, Olivia Roe, Sistinas & Joshua Stansberry and Haygan Kapper.

Helen Oldag, Lafesta Runyon, Thelma Ault and Jane Morehead were her best friends. Edna was preceded in death by her parents, Husband, Alvin Kapper, Granddaughter, Melissa Stansberry, two son in laws, Tom Skinner and Jim Bayne. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:00 pm Thursday, February 21, 2019 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Elwood, Indiana with Father Dan Duff officiating.

Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Thursday, February 21, 2019 from 10:00 am – 11:45 am, at Dunnichay Funeral Home, Elwood, Indiana. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made through the funeral home to the Indianapolis Zoo.
