Obituary for Roy Wesley Salyer Mr. Roy Wesley Salyer, age 66, of Elizabethton, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 26, 2018, at his home. He was a son of the late Rev. Homer and Iona Eads Salyer and was born in East Stone Gap, VA.

Mr. Salyer was retired from the Carter County School System where he taught math at Happy Valley High School, Hampton High School and Unaka High School. After his retirement he worked at Food City. He was a member of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School, served as a Deacon and was the former choir director.

Mr. Salyer loved spending time with his grandchildren and continued to support the athletic programs of Unaka High School and Hunter Elementary by attending as many sporting events as he could. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of thirty-eight years, Joyce Jean Arwood Salyer, of the home; two daughters, Jemima Rowland, and her husband, Dustin, and Mary Asher and her husband, Brad, all of Elizabethton; eight grandchildren, Cydney Forney, Nolan Bradley, Kiki Forney, Alisha Harrell, Mattie Salyer, Allie Rowland, Easton Asher and Gage Rowland; two brothers, Desler Salyer, of Kingsport; Carlos Salyer, of Elizabethton; four sisters, Brenda Howell and her husband, Jack; Janice Estep, Vera West, and LaDonnia Proffitt and her husband, Jerry; all of Elizabethton and his father-in-law, John Bell Lewis, of Elizabethton. .

Many nieces and nephews also survive. A service to honor the life of Mr. Salyer will be conducted on Monday, October 29, 2018, at 7:00 PM in the Chapel of Peace, Tetrick Funeral Home, Elizabethton with Rev. Eric Heaton officiating.

Music will be under the direction of the New Liberty Quartet. The family will receive friends in the funeral home chapel from 5:00 – 7:00 PM on Monday prior to the service or at the home at other times. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry Oaks, Ronnie Hicks and the Deacons of Dungan Chapel Baptist Church.
