Sallie Ann Shank age 77, of Ashland, passed away Monday, June 11, 2018 at her residence. She was born March 12, 1941 in Ashland the daughter of Howard and Esther (Hostler) Burt. Sallie had been a lifelong resident of Ashland and was a 1959 graduate of Ashland High School.

She had been employed with Cresco Corp. , Faultless Rubber and in 1975 she opened The Cakery where she was Owner/ Operator, in 2000 Sallie opened her catering business Celebrations by Sallie! , Where she was also Owner/ Operator until her retirement.

She enjoyed making crafts, painting, baking, traveling, and making candy with her grandchildren. She also had a love for Lighthouses. Sallie was a member of Maple Grove Church of the Brethren.

On April 5, 1974 Sallie married Gerald Shank who survives. Also surviving are her children, Jeff Bates of Ashland, Lori (Curt) Spring of Polk, Karen (companion, Gary VanScyoc) Bates of Jeromesville, and Sharon Bates of Ashland; her stepchildren, Susie, Patty, Robert, Pamela, and Debbie; 8 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren; her sister, Judy (Paul) Ishman, and brother, Terry Burt. Sallie was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Jack Fitzgerald, and Larry Fitzgerald and; along with her sister, Patty Berry and step son Jerry Shank.

There will be Celebration of Sallie’s Life held at 6:00 P.M. Monday, June 18, 2018 at Heyl Funeral Home with Pastor John Ballinger officiating; friends may visit with the family from 4 till 6:00 P.M. prior to the service at the funeral home Monday. Memorial contributions in Sallie’s name may be sent to the following organizations; Pathways Hospice, 1171 East Main Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805; Wasen Rehabilitation Center, 2000 Center Street, Ashland, Ohio 44805 or Maple Grove Church of the Brethren, 960 Township Road 964, Ashland, Ohio.
