Monday, May 13, 2019 in the Becker-Rabon Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin. August “Sonny” Tyson passed away Tuesday May 7th 2019 at home.

He was born to Eugene and Margaret Tyson on October 21, 1946 in Sanger, Texas. He was raised in Pilot Point, Texas with his sister Margaret “Margie” Tyson and his brother Ronald Tyson. He played football in his high school years.

He met and married Ernie “Sissy” May Binnion in 1965. Together they had three daughters Sharon, Katrina and Tamara. Sissy passed in December 1979.

He joined the Army and fought in Vietnam. The Army sent him on multiple tours to Germany along with duty stations in Texas and Oklahoma. During his military career he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal with Four Bronze Service Stars, two Overseas Service Bars, Mechanic Badge, Army Good Conduct Medal-6, Army Service Ribbon, five Overseas Service Ribbons, Army Achievement Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle-M16), and the Army Achievement Medal.

He retired from the Army May 30, 1987. Sonny married Agnes Jensen on December 18, 1981. Together they loved to travel, bowl, go fishing and make ceramics.

He also enjoyed woodworking and enjoyed making gifts for people. He loved meeting new people and had an infectious personality. Survivors include his wife, Agnes Tyson, his son, Allen Hunkler, his three daughters, Sharon Tyson, Katrina Boyd, her husband, Mike Boyd, Tamara Miller and her husband, David Miller, five grandchildren, Christopher Hutchings, Krystin Guerra, and her husband, Shannon Guerra, Kelsie Hutchings, David “Anthony” Miller, and Michael Tyson, two great-grandchildren, Shannon Guerra, Jr “Junior” and Emma Hutchings, his sister, Margaret “Margie” Arnett, her husband, Lloyd Arnett his brother, Ronald Tyson, and his longtime friend, Gary Smith.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Tyson, his father, Eugene Tyson, and his first wife, Ernie “Sissy” May Tyson.
