Shelley’s Obituary Shelley Ann Nelson, 62, of Columbus, ND entered into heaven while surrounded by her family on May 19, 2019 at St. Luke’s Hospital, Crosby, ND after a long battle with cancer. Shelley was born August 31, 1956 in Blackfoot, Idaho. Shelley is the daughter of Gordon & Charline Oas.
Her family moved to North Dakota in 1963. She attended school & graduated from Columbus High School with the Class of 1975. Shelley married her high school sweetheart Timothy F. Nelson of Flaxton, ND on September 22, 1974, and was the beloved mother of three children Chad, Charles & Amber.
Shelley was more than a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin & friend. She was supportive of her husband in all he ventured into from working the in the oil field to farming. She was a loving mother who was always there for her children no matter what life threw at her.
She kept her faith all through nursing Charles back to health after being shot in 1990 into losing Chad in 1993. She had so much pride and joy in her children. Her heart grew with each grandchild that Charles and Amber blessed her with.
Shelley loved her family and adored her seven grand babies. She loved to share her faith and love in God with all of them. She loved to have slumber parties, play and craft with them.
Her adventures with them included the park, pool, movies, cooking & baking together. Shelley loved her flowers and the grand babies always got involved in keeping them up & watered. Shelley was always there for her mom, dad and siblings.
She had an immense love for her whole family. She organized many family reunions and get-togethers to host for holidays or just a random reason to get together. She was always there for advice and encouragement for all and everyone who met her.
Shelley was a member of Faith Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and confirmation classes. She enjoyed being involved in many church activities. She was a member of many community activities and worked various jobs including direct sales & independent business entrepreneur.
Centennial Well Service, Inc. was the first business Tim and Shelley owned in a partnership in 1989 and later acquired full ownership. Shelley graduated from Williston State College in 1992 with a degree in Small Business Management. She also owned a bowling alley and cafe, steakhouse and bar.
She loved and enjoyed serving the public and made many friends and acquaintances throughout her years in business. Shelley is survived by her husband of 44 years, Timothy F. Nelson, Columbus, ND; son, Charles (Jodi) Nelson and his children, Cole, Kiah & Allison, Columbus, ND; daughter, Amber Nygard, and her children, Jayden, Gracelyn, Jaren & Gavin, Columbus, ND; father, Gordon Oas, Minot, ND; mother-in-law, Janet Nelson, Flaxton, ND; brother, Shane (Andrea) Oas, Columbus, ND; sisters, Geraldine Oas, Minot, ND; Mitzie (Dennis) Nay, Minot, ND, Myndi (Harlan) Johnson, Minot, ND; brother-in-laws, Michael (Dori) Nelson, Bismarck, ND, Douglas (Debra) Nelson, Lignite, ND; sister-in-law, Kathy (Mike) Mitchell, Montgomery, TX. She is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces & nephews.
She was proceeded in death by her son, Chad T.G. Nelson; sister, JoAnn I. Johnson; niece, Aubrey Guymon; nephew, Aidan S. Vanderhoef: mother, Charline J. Oas; father-in-law, Ivan J. Nelson; maternal grandparents, Walter & Gladys (Akin) Westerness; paternal grandparents, Chester & Edna (Westerness) Oas; multiple aunts, uncles & cousins. She will be forever remembered by all! Funeral: Friday, May 24, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus, ND.
Interment: Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Columbus, ND. Visitation: Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. at with a Family Prayer Service at 5 p.m. at Faith Lutheran Church, Columbus, ND.
