Shirel Boyd Houston 1934 ~ 2018 Shirel Boyd Houston, 84, passed away October 7, 2018 at his home in Layton, Utah, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 19, 1934 in Panguitch, Utah to Arthur Quince and Iva Ann Sevy Houston. He attended Panguitch High School and graduated from Ogden High School.

He lived in Ogden for five years. On February 17, 1956, he married his sweetheart VeOra Gilson in Provo, Utah, later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 27, 1962. They are the parents of five children.

They raised their family in Layton, Utah, where they have lived for the past 59 years. They were also able to spend three years living in Germany. Shirel was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving a mission with his eternal companion VeOra in the Zurich Switzerland Mission.

He served as Bishop of the Layton Park Ward; in Young Mens, High Priest Groups, bishoprics, and various other callings. He was also very active in church sports. He enjoyed bowling, softball, basketball, hunting, fishing, camping, playing harmonica, gardening, family history, coin collecting and oil painting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, sisters and one great-grandson. He is survived by his eternal companion VeOra, his children Marla and Cole Davis (Arizona), Lynda and Jan Christensen (Utah), Jeffrey Houston (California), Douglas and Chenelle Houston (Utah), Shirlene and Marvin Rogers (Utah), sixteen grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Layton Park Ward Chapel, 789 E. Wasatch Dr., Layton, Utah.

Friends may visit with family Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Lindquist’s Layton Mortuary, 1867 No. Fairfield Rd. , Layton, Utah and Friday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment, Lindquist’s Washington Heights Memorial Park, 4500 Washington Blvd. , Ogden, Utah.
