Shirley Ann Barbour, age 84, of Lake Odessa, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019, at Spectrum Health Heart Center. Shirley was born on March 14, 1934, in Sebewa Township. She was the daughter of Carlton and Pearl Vance.

She graduated from Mount Pleasant High School in 1952 and married the love of her life, Wallace Barbour, in 1954. Shirley and Wally bought a farm in 1959 in Lake Odessa, where they remained throughout their 63-year marriage. Together they raised three sons.

Shirley was absolutely the matriarch of the Barbour family. She helped work the family farm but also had many hobbies. After Wally’s retirement, the couple spent many winters in LaBelle, Florida, with friends, golfing, fishing and playing cards.

Shirley loved being outside: walking, gardening and digging in her flower beds. She was a fantastic cook and loved entertaining family and friends. Cookies and coffee were always on hand for anyone who stopped by to visit.

Shirley was an avid reader and a lover of sports (especially her grandchildren). Shirley is survived by her sons: Dan (Ann), Steve (Pam), Mark (Julie); grandchildren: Jermey (Kate), Nichole (Adam), Tracey (Rodrigo), Kristi (Wajde), Michael (Jessica), Rosie, three great grandchildren, and sisters, Sarah and Marilyn. Preceding her in death were her parents, Carlton and Pearl, along with her brother, Richard, and her beloved husband, Wally.

A private family service will be held at a later date. Memorials in Shirley’s name can be made to the Lake Odessa Community Library.
