Obituary for Sidney Brown Jr. Sidney Brown (Theron Sidney Brown, Jr.) went to his eternal home October 5th, 2018. A memorial service will be held at Cornerstone Baptist Church, 8947 Albemarle Rd, Charlotte, NC on Monday, October 8, 2018 at noon. Family will receive friends after the service.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Parsons Brown; daughter Renée Herlong and husband John of Kinston, NC; and daughter Dawn Templeton and husband Nathan of Fort Mill, SC. He was a wonderful “Pop” to five grandchildren: Emma, Sydney, and Hannah Herlong, and Hayden and Jack Templeton. He is survived by his mother, Martha Smithdeal Brown of Trinity Oaks, Salisbury, NC and three brothers: Larry and wife, Linda of Verona, VA, Tom and wife, Brenda of Concord, NC, Phil and wife,Terri of Matthews, NC.

He was preceded in death by his father, Theron Sidney Brown, Sr. Sidney was born in Mooresville, NC on September 20, 1942 and graduated from Concord High School in 1960. After completing a BS in Accounting from Pfeiffer College in Misenheimer, NC, Sidney worked for Travelers insurance before helping found VALPRO, an audit service company. Sidney was very active in auditor associations at the local, regional.

and national levels including 14 years on the board of the National Society of Insurance Premium Auditors with one year as president. Sidney Brown served in the US Army, from 1966-1969. Following his active duty, he served with active reserve until 1989 retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He was always proud to wear his veterans cap and tell people it was an honor to serve when they thanked him for his service. Throughout his life, faith and church were very important to Sidney. He was a faithful participant and active leader as Deacon, Stewardship chairman and Sunday school teacher.

He seemed to be there whenever the church was open. Even through his illness, he treasured the interactions he had with his caregivers, nurses and others sharing stories of faith, prayers and words of blessing. Sidney was an avid Atlanta Braves fan, consistently watching them on TV and traveling regularly to see their Spring training in Florida.

He enjoyed playing and watching golf. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Sidney’s name may be made to the USO of NC or any hospice organization including Hospice House of Union County, which provided excellent care and comfort at the end of his life.
