Sister Jane McDowell, H.M., 78, formerly Sr. Mary Gael, died Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Villa Maria Community Center, Villa Maria, PA. A graduate of Canton Central Catholic High School, she entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary Congregation in 1957. Sr. Jane served as a teacher and principal for 24 years before focusing her talents as a pastoral minister in a parish.

The next chapter in her life was written in the hills of Appalachia where she gave 18 years serving in rural areas of West Virginia, Ohio and Virginia. She was on staff at Emmanuel Community Care Center, Girard prior to joining her sisters at Villa Maria Community Center in the ministry of prayer in which she served until her death. The daughter of the late Levi and Helen (Nieporte) McDowell she is survived by her sisters, Rose Lightfoot, Etta Mangus and Jacqueline Brown, many nieces and nephews and their families and her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation with whom she shared her life for 60 years.

She was preceded in death by her sister Inez Laubacher and brothers Thomas and Robert McDowell. Funeral Friday, May 11 at 10:30 am at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria PA. Friends may call at Villa Maria Chapel Thursday, May 10, 5-7pm and Friday, May 11 from 9:30-10:15am.
