Obituary for Sylvia M. Barcus Sylvia Barcus, 95, passed away early Wednesday May 23, 2018 at Our Lady of Angels Retirement Home. A long-time travel agent, Sylvia enjoyed traveling the world with her late husband, Robert. The two visited most of the United States and several countries.

She kept a world map and marked all the places she had visited with red pins. Her travels covered the globe. At Wunderlich Travel Agency, she helped countless people plan their vacations and special trips.

She was one of the first in the Joliet area to complete accreditation to become a certified travel consultant in the 1970s. Sylvia also enjoyed a good game of golf and regularly played well into her 80s. She loved her family and enjoyed celebrating the holidays in her home with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed a good comedy. She enjoyed starting off her day with breakfast at a local restaurant with her friends and family. Sylvia also had a heart for serving the community and was a longtime member of the Joliet Business & Professional Women’s Club.

She was named Woman of the Year in 1986 by the club and also served as the club’s president. Sylvia also was recognized by Joliet Junior College with a Distinguished Service Award in 1997 for her service to the community. Her goal in life was simply to be a good person.

She believed everything happened for a reason, and that her job was to discover the reason and use it in a positive manner. She is preceded in death by her husband of 75 years, Robert Barcus. She is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann (Joe) Fabbre, and her son, William (Mary Ann) Barcus; her beloved grandchildren, Joe (Alice) Fabbre, Jody (Brad) Woodley, John Boyd, Jennifer (Steve) Roake, Jeff Boyd, Julie (Bill) Adelmann and Robert Barcus and her great grandchildren, Anthony and Ashley Fabbre, Kendall and Kiley Adelmann and Gillian Roake.

Funeral services will be held at Carlson-Holmquist-Sayles Funeral Home, 2300 Black Road, Joliet, on Wednesday May 30, 2018 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Abraham National Cemetery in Elwood. Visitation services will be held on Tuesday May 29, 2018 from 3 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Joliet Community Hospice Home, Development Office, 250 Water Stone Circle, Joliet, Il. 60431 or to Honor Flight at www.
