Teretha Clay of Kansas City, Missouri July 4, 1927 – December 7, 2018 Mrs. Teretha Clay was born July 4, 1927, in Wabbaseka, Arkansas to the union of Mattie Silas and Buster Smith. She was the oldest of six children. Her mother, father, two sisters and only brother preceded her in death.

She attended the Wabbaseka Training School in Wabbaseka, Arkansas, which was the only high school for blacks. Teretha professed a hope in Christ at an early age at Second Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. White Head, Pastor.

In 1944, Teretha married Mr. Willie Clay and to this union one son and three daughters were born. Mrs. Clay was known to some friends and family as “Mrs. T” or “T”. “Mrs. T” and Willie remained married for 69 years, until his passing on January 2, 2014.

In 1956, Willie and Teretha relocated to Kansas City, Missouri where she remained a homemaker. While in Kansas City Mrs. Clay united with Canaan Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. B. Poe and later visited Pleasant Baptist Church.

Mrs. Teretha Clay passed away on Friday, December 7, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory: one son, Gene Clay; three daughters, Clemmie Carlock, Regina Curry and Sharon Smith all of Kansas City, Missouri; two sisters, Bernice Smith of Chicago, IL and Bessie Friley of Tucson, AZ; five grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren and host of nieces, nephews and friends. Memorial services for Mrs. Clay will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, December 29, 2018, at E. S. Eley & Sons Funeral Chapel.
