Velma D. Doubleday, age 90, of Plainwell, formerly of Battle Creek, passed away Monday, July 16, 2018 at her home. She was born December 28, 1927 in Green County, Mississippi the daughter of John Wesley and Bessie Mae (Mills) Gordon. Velma was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hastings and had worked at Bill Knapps and the Kellogg Company.

On December 30, 1960 she was married to Richard E. Doubleday who survives. Also surviving are her children: Richard (Karen) Doubleday of San Diego, CA and Brenda (Jeff) Travis of Grand Rapids, MI; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Velma was preceded in death by her daughter Jeanie Walley Lemons.

The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, July 21, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 505 N. Airport Road, Hastings, MI. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to The Wounded Warrior Project.
